"New York’s River Festival of 1909 and the Making of a Metropolis"

Kathleen Eagen Johnson wrote a fascinating book called, New York’s River Festival of 1909 and the Making of a Metropolis. This book commemorates how New York transformed itself from the ‘largest’ city to a world-class metropolis. The Hudson-Fulton Celebration was officially meant to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson's discovery of the river bearing his name, but instead the Celebration was really created to showcase New York's coming of age as a world metropolis. Johnson’s book includes a rich selection of full-color images and photographs, graphics, manuscripts, artifacts, memorabilia, paintings, and much more.
